For some unnamed cause, humanity are prone to value and occasionally take up useless knowledge facts. This random useless knowledge is the result of millenia of fact accumulation and arrangement performed by people all over the globe. Our attraction to useless knowledge may be just as much a result of our own existential impulse to compile info to help us discover ourselves within that world. Our identity may very well exist in the immeasurable knowledge accumulated since the beginning of scrivened human civilization.

While we are so frequently confused about the import of these factoids, we are also driven by them. Lists of these facts have been accumulated for ages. Even in the modern era, we see them in tomes like “Guinness World Records”, whose publication has reached the hands of millions members of our species. Within these listings, we find that our own unique pastimes and neuroticisms are not, in fact, so peculiar. This provides us with a level of ease that may help us keep going in the style we have become accustomed to.

If we inhabited a planet whose goals and needs were not accumulated, our our own enduring spirit might also be mangled by time.

Among the most famous of the North American third-party firms managing loyalty initiatives is a firm called Trilegiant. Liaising with a number of retail brands, many major names in entertainment, shopping, health, travel organizations as well as others, Trilegiant works to streamline your purchasing experience. Mr. Lipman and Trilegiant are not unfamiliar to the business world. Boasting more than thirty-five years of expertise across an expanding area — now encompassing six states — and a 3000 strong workforce, the company from Norwalk, Connecticut has certainly proven itself. At this moment, they service upwards of 25 million customers throughout the USA. Mr Lipman’s business is famous for producing risk free deals which make it easy for members to save money, get hold of quality products and services, as well as making shopping more convenient. Looking at one example, the Buyers Advantage service provides a way to obtain reasonably priced insurance on long term warranty, guaranteed returns, and the cost of repairs, guaranteeing their peace of mind as regards their acquisition. Trilegiant also, of course, offer other programs such as HealthSaver — which provides cheap healthcare with no drop in quality — just to take a single example.

For more advice, we suggest you surf to our awesome web site for Trilegiant ideas.

In addition, Trilegiant watches out for the spirit of the surrounding populace, with both CEO Mr Nathaniel Lipman and its employees feeling that it’s their place to give something back. To take one example, four years ago forty members of staff teamed up and raised in excess of thirty thousand dollars in donations for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. What’s more, it took them only one working week to do!

They also set out to be of service using research. As you probably know, each year public firms and the government of the United States of America acquire a vast body of important information. Trilegiant studies this research with care to isolate major problems and then considers ways of improving them. To take one example, the total number of auto accidents in America each year is about six and a half million.

No one would want their own motorbike to factor in these figures, especially among the numbers for physical injury, and since 2007 Autovantage car club members have received copies of the firm’s annual “road rage” factsheets. These contain digests of eye opening data and helpful tips to raise public awareness. Caring for the population you come from is worthwhile, whether or not most corporations accept it; Trilegiant is happy to count itself as one of the companies who understand. Providing schemes designed to benefit subscribers’ buying experiences and an honest dedication to the community’s goals they demonstrate heart is in the right place. Put simply, they are the essence of a customer subscription minded business.

Chances are you will have seen mention of Mr. Naveen Jain the co-founder and CEO of Intelius, Inc. the renowned information commerce market leader. Well beyond having made the Forbes list “400 Richest in America” 2000, this highly successful entrepreneur has won various choice awards, foremost the WSA Industry Achievement Award, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and the Albert Einstein Technology Medal, to name a few of them. But that is certainly not the end of the story. For Jain and his relations are by the same token as impassioned about philanthropy and will strive to give succor whenever possible. All our hopes for the years to come are held in our children. They are moreover a crucial motivation for this entrepreneur, and he takes any chance he gets to support them. This obviously, is why he is always meticulously taking advantage of every chance he can to lend a helping hand wherever even remotely practicable. Thus, Naveen Jain, his relatives and his workers at Intelius give their time to a variety of philanthropical foundations like United Way, the Vedic Cultural Center, and the Children’s Hospital. Obviously, they will give plenty of pecuniary assistance but even more importantly, they commit their time and care to those youth who require it the most. Mr. Jain also helps the Children’s Hospital in an effort to restore children’s health, too. Seeing that Jain is a graduate of XLRI Jamshedpur and the Indian Institute of Technology, it’s hardly surprising that professional training is a crucial pivot point in his philanthropic works. This includes campaigns and good causes that are local, state, and nationwide. Thus, Intelius and its CEO are assisting aid agencies and charities, for example TreeHouse, the Indian American Education Foundation and the Overlake Service League.

Feeding the world’s famished is an equally central challenge to Jain and his family and he refuses all distinction as to whether the person in need is very young or aged, and neither where they may be located, be it the grandest town or the loneliest hovel. Although Naveen Jain is cognizant that the task of getting provisions for all the world’s famished is a phenomenal one, he is also aware that the unattainable can actually be reachable assuming that each person endeavors towards a common end. If this CEO actually gets his way, the final curtain will is certain to come down on hunger and destitution everywhere at some time. An outside observer may assume that being the boss of a successful business and a dedicated husband and father would leave hardly any room for volunteering and support. All the same Naveen Jain makes certain that each one of his humanitarian endeavors will enjoy all the help he can realistically come up with. Indeed this intently visionary businessman is positively much more than merely some ordinary business leader. He is, moreover, a remarkable personality and a true community champion.

Most if not all truly notable CEOs are constructive members of their respective communities and this gentleman is thankfully no exception, on the contrary. You are bound to have come across Mr. Naveen Jain as the co-founder & CEO of Intelius, Inc. the celebrated company providing background checks and public records services. Beyond having made the Forbes list "400 Richest in America" 2000, this maverick businessman has won several coveted awards, foremost the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Albert Einstein Technology Medal, and the WSA Industry Achievement Award, to list merely a few of them. However it certainly does not end there. That's because Mr. Jain and his family are every bit as avid about their benevolent acts and will endeavor to help out as regularly as they can.

Today practical philanthropism is arguably more important than ever. You have very likely seen Mr. Naveen Jain the co-founder and CEO of Intelius, Inc. the acclaimed information commerce company. Well beyond making the Forbes list “400 Richest in America” in 2000, this successful businessman has won a number of distinguished awards, most notably the Albert Einstein Technology Medal, the WSA Industry Achievement Award, and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. However things definitely develop further from there. Because Mr. Naveen Jain and his kin are equally as passionate about their charitable projects and will seek to help out whenever possible.

The youth of today are indisputably humanity’s ultimate aspiration or the future. This entrepreneur regards and treats them as the essential core of his philanthropy projects and he tries to make the best of each and every opportunity he encounters to help them. This is the chief reason why he is always intensely exploiting every possibility he can to offer help whenever it seems at all doable. Therefore, Naveen Jain, his family and his workers at Intelius apply their time to an impressive number of charities such as the University Preparatory Academy, the Bellevue Boys and Girls Club, and TreeHouse. Naturally, they will provide plenty of material aid, but most importantly, they pledge their time and attention to the most disadvantaged and danger prone children. Furthermore, he sponsors the Children’s Hospital, hoping to advance children’s health. Seeing that Jain is a former student of XLRI Jamshedpur and the Indian Institute of Technology, it’s no wonder that professional training has been assigned a very high status in his philanthropic activities. This encompasses movements and aid organizations local, state, and nationwide. Hence, Intelius and its CEO are actively funding voluntary entities and establishments such as the Rotary Club, United Way and the Overlake Service League. Feeding the planet’s destitute constitutes yet another critical responsibility for Naveen Jain and his family and he refuses all differentiation as to whether the individual in danger is very young or very old, or where they live, be it the grandest conurbation or the lowest hovel. Although Naveen is conscious that the mission of locating sustenance for all the world’s hungry is a colossal one, he also recognizes that the unfeasible can factually become achievable when each and every one of us toils together. If this entrepreneur obtains his objectives, the final curtain will certainly come down on starvation and neediness all over the world some day.

You could imagine that as the man in charge of a very successful market leading company on top of being a devoted family man would give him no free scope for charity and helping others. But Naveen Jain ensures that each of of his beneficent undertakings will be given all the aid he can possibly come up with. This idealistic man is decidedly way more than a mere though admittedly very successful pioneer of internet commerce. He is, in fact, an exceptional individual and a genuine community hero.

I’ve been resisting writing about how to “work the room” because I personally don’t like to do it (interesting how that happens). Fortunately, I came to my senses and realized that I can answer the question easily, without having to actually do it myself!

So here’s the bottom line.

You need two things to successfully and efficiently “work the room”:

You must be clear about why you want to work the room.

You must be able to engage people in conversation.

Why is this important?

Well, your objective for wanting to work the room directly affects *what* you talk about with people as you go through the room.

Let’s think about this for a bit.

After you’re done working the room, what end result do you want to have?

Do you want to scan the room for prospective clients/customers and walk away at the end of the event with a list of qualified leads?

Do you want to do market research and leave the event with very specific information about how to proceed with your new project or venture?

Are you looking for new business opportunities, such as strategic partnerships or speaking engagements, and want at least a couple of contacts to follow up with later?

Do you see how your end goal affects your topics of conversation with people?

This kind of clarity also allows you to have brief and focused conversations with many people — which is basically what working the room is all about.

Next, notice I said “engage in conversation”, not “make conversation”.

When I “make conversation”, I don’t really have any agenda for the conversation. There’s no specific outcome I want from the conversation. And the topics of conversation can be inconsequential.

However, when I “engage” someone in conversation, there’s real interest on my part, either in the other person or the topic of conversation or both. You probably know from your own experience, that the quality of such conversations is very different from the previous kind.

Of course, when you meet someone for the first time (as is the case when you’re working a room), you do start by making conversation and talking about “light” stuff.

However, if you’re focused about your purpose for working the room, you can quickly find opportunities or “openings” to transition to a more meaningful conversation. In other words, engage in a topic of conversation that is useful, interesting and relevant to both of you.

Whether or not you find an “opening” for a real conversation, you want to keep the conversation focused and brief, so you can move on to the next person.

End conversations with an agreement about the next step, if there’s one. Such as promising to call and schedule a time to talk in more detail later, or agreeing to email some information, or whatever. Or a simple greeting, if you couldn’t really engage or if there’s no need for a follow up.

When I work with clients privately on this topic, I often spend months with them on how to engage (and re-engage, if necessary!) people in “real” conversations, how to recognize and capitalize on openings and opportunities during conversations, how to skillfully direct the flow of conversations or conclude it with ease, and so on. It takes months because the focus is on applying, practicing and mastering the concepts in *real life*.

Still, I hope this brief article gives you some very specific things you can start doing right away to improve your success rate. Good luck!

Do you take for granted the fact that your friends and colleagues and associates in the business community around you know what your company really does? I certainly have in the past, and everyday I’m amazed by how little people actually know about my company, Cube Management, and what we actually do.

Just this morning I was having breakfast with a long-term associate of mine and we were just talking personally about our work and our personal life, etc, and we got into a discussion about our businesses, and we quickly realized how little we knew about each others companies and before I knew it we were talking about doing business together. Specifically this individual has a need to recruit a marketing person and they had no idea that we were in the business of supplying top talent in sales and marketing to companies.

So a lot of times if we just take the time to make sure that our businesses are known by others in our circle of influence, we can get business and referrals and open up doors to new opportunity that are right within our grasp.

So the question I ask of you is what are you doing to stay in touch with your friends, colleagues, and network associates to make sure they’re aware of what your company does? It’s pretty easy to just neglect this area, and as a result, lose critical opportunities for referrals of business from people that are very close to you.

Here’s a couple of ideas about how to overcome that: First of all, make sure to take time to explain to people and update them about what’s going on in your company. Give them the elevator pitch about your company without spending a lot of time just talking about yourself. Also, when you meet friends or business associates for breakfast, ask them to give you their elevator pitch and a quick update on their business, its size, the kind of work that it does, who its customers are, etc. You’ll be amazed on how that can lead to discussions of either opportunities for doing work together or making vital introductions to each other and referrals.

Also, make sure to keep your friends and business associates and network associates on your mailing lists so that when you’re doing email campaigns and other types of updates on your company’s products and services, they are kept up-to-date on what your company is doing as well.

Finally, make sure that you give them a copy of your business card and encourage them to visit your website to get information about your company. You’ll discover that a lot of people that have known you for a long time haven’t been to your company’s website and don’t have a current understanding of what your company does, limiting their ability to give or refer business to you.

By just practicing these simple principles you should be able to get a lot more referrals and a lot more business opportunities without a lot more effort.
