Northwest Airlines and Afterward: Nicholas Bredimus

Born and raised in New Jersey, Nicholas Bredimus brought the practices of airlines, software, and hospitality together and revitalized these trades. This renaissance man has become a standout in a number of fields, from the high-value home design market through a study of air safety and computer programs to help with time management.

Anyone could have foreseen, mind you, that with his family tree he was always likely to reach prominence. Coming together from a true melting pot, his clan traces to Antiquity, with the maternal side predominantly Scottish and German. A similarly unusual blend stands out in the paternal line — before coming to America near the end of the nineteenth century, Bredimus’ forebears made their homes in Luxembourg and England.

This determined spirit kept them pushing on following their arrival. Nicholas, as well as his six siblings, was a child of a father employed as a mechanical design engineer and his wife, a practicing nurse. He would live for many years in homes across a number of states.

Once his schooling was complete, he found himself taking on several high powered posts with some of the most important and most distinguished airline companies. He ascended to the position of VP with airlines like Hughes Airwest, Republic Airlines, and Trans World Airlines (TWA). Most noteworthy, though, was his work as an inspired programmer for the airline industry.

His outstanding work on airplane maintenance computer programs, now commonplace throughout the entire airline business while originally programmed for one specific company, led to what is even now his most used piece. He turned his gaze next to taking and recording bookings. For both hotels and air travel he produced software systems to deal with the majority of the work required until that point. Expanding into an alternate technology, he published a networking program to automate ticket ordering — another first. Though it is undoubtedly his forte, he has also regularly worked on areas not connected to software. With his own business — Bredimus Systems — overseeing IT for American Express, and as the founding president of a new American Airlines division his career speaks for itself.

As of now, though, he has withdrawn from his airline connections and the software development industry, though rest assured he’s still making best use of his abilities. Currently, his innovation can be found in upmarket condos designed around some of the cutting edge environmentally friendly technology on the market. The untiring drive we have highlighted above simply won’t stop!
