Northern Marianas Badminton Tournament Features Straight Set Victories
Straight set victories were glimpsed by badminton fans as the second week of the IT&E Singles and Mixed Doubles Badminton Tournament 2009 enters its second week of competitions at the REM Court in Gualo Rai, Northern Marianas Islands.
The straight sets wins were seen at both the men’s and women’s singles matches. In the women’s side, Christy Villaflor easily defeated Loida Ito 21-17, 21-7. Three male players also cruised without breaking as much set when they outlasted their rivals in straight sets.
Macoi Aguda endured tough competition against Ferdie Arago before prevailing 23-21, 21-18; Gary Bandoja cruised past Daniel Macario 21-17, 21-19 and Rodwealth Espana smashed past Raphael Zapanta 21-14, 21-15. These matches were played under the men’s C division.
The singles competitions continued to sizzle as some of the top players were present to show their yonex badminton racket skills while aspiring professionals managed to impress the audience with their talents in the game.
The doubles matches are about to end with eight matches complete yesterday. Out of the eight, five games were straight set wins.
Angie and Galvez Ito managed to make a come from behind victory after dropping the first set but eventually took the other two in a smashing fashion. The duo defeated Jorge Olanda and Marlene Peraja 13-21, 21-12 and 21-15. The losing duo still has a chance to make it to the finals after defeating Lucelle Lampera and Keno San Pablo 21-9, 18-21 and 21-19.
The winners of this competition will be known this week as the action continues to heat up before the highly anticipated final matches. The winners will receive cash prizes and trophies.
