Accurate Mobile Broadband Speeds to Be Communicated by Swedish Providers

UK mobile broadband providers could learn a thing or two about honesty from their Swedish counterparts. They have come up with straightforward marketing guidelines, which will come into effect from the 1st of September, allowing customers to know the actual speed of their mobile broadband connections.

Customers often have to make do with mobile broadband connections that run at speeds far below the levels that are marketed. This is commonplace all over the world with most companies indulging in this ‘false advertising’, citing the theoretical broadband speed and making a convenient use of the phrase ‘up to’.

This results in consumers ending up feeling cheated. For example, connections, which boast of speeds of 3.6 Mbps, 7.2 Mbps, and 14.4 Mbps, deliver only 3 Mbps, 6 Mbps, and 10 Mbps respectively. The speeds that these providers advertise may be possible theoretically, but when it comes to practical implementation of the same, it is usually not possible. This makes browsing the internet using mobile broadband a frustrating experience for many – click for info on best mobile broadband.

TeliaSonera, Tele2, Telenor and 3, who are the biggest mobile broadband providers in Sweden came together to formulate the guidelines. This transparent approach should be applauded and we hope that other providers would follow suit.

Consumers feel that the current practice of advertising unrealistically high broadband speeds is misleading and unfair. Hence, meeting expectations should be the priority of the providers rather than simply attracting customers through any means possible.
