Interviews and How to Prepare for them
Your Prep
- Prepare a current carefully typed CV tailored for the business to leave with the interview panel member.
- Have a friend with a critical eye proof the CV.
- Prepare responses to classic questions about yourself (review your strengths and weaknesses).
- Obtain permission in advance from people you mean to utilise as reference.
- Learn about the community in which the post is located.
- Take an interest about the employer, what they do, their troubles and future plans (annual reports, organizational charts, policies and procedures, staff manual, and job description of the company being interviewed for).
Preparing a Good curriculum vitae
A resume is your representative for the position screening out committee, and it should establish a statement that shows you and your candidacy. Since there is no standard way to prepare a resume, your CV must be able to indicate what you can do for the business and show your overall preparation for the post. A curriculum vitae should contain the following information but not necessarily in the order given:
- Your name, address, and telephone number(s).
- Employment objective. Suggest the category of post you are searching. The objective should be germane to the company you are seeking.
- Training: school name and location, graduation date or dates of attendance, degree obtained or highest grade completed.
- Experience: indicate job title, name and address of company, dates of employment, and description of post responsibilities.
- Special skills possessed: computer skills, foreign languages, honors received, any achievement that is worth mentioning etc.
- Indicate accessibility of references (usually upon request).
Prepare yourself for the Day of the Interview
- Dress for the post.
- Be conservative but not prudish.
- Be clean. Look for missing buttons, dragging hems, split seams, etc.
- Avoid jingling jewellery or “super trendy” fashion.
- Come out looking refreshed and rested, curious and lively.
- Arrive on time for your engagement.
- Bring with you id (social security card, drivers license).
Your Demeanour During the Interview or the Selling Game
- Be constructive over your qualifications.
- Fend Off faultfinding comments about past posts or chiefs.
- Learn the names of the interview panel members and their position titles within the administration.
- Indicate domains of the post to which you can apply previous experience and training.
- Be creative in describing your skills and relating them to a new job.
Note that the employer requires answers to the following queries:
- Why are you here?
- What will you do for the business (special skills, background)?
- How much will it cost to employ you?
The Curtain Call or Closing the Deal
Post a follow-up letter thanking the panel members for their time and interest in you. And Restate your interest in the placement and the establishment.
