Sexual Toys Can Often Make You Go Wild with Excitement

The sexy toy market has found an enormous increase in revenue since the 1960s. This is part of the sexual revolution and a big benefit to mankind. Sexy toys are a lovely way to increase passion into your sex life, they will probably help you come to orgasm and sex toys constantly put a smile on your face.

Vibrating sex aids come in a variety of lengths and colours, you can get them in a small size for your handbag right up to 13 inches. The wonder of a vibrating marital aid is the stunning vibration that it gives off, this vibration is the primary source of orgasm for females and should usually be changed in vibration to suit the woman. Sexual toys are super. Feels like the real thing but better – Vibrating Vaginas.

His Hand is Moved by Faith

Have you experienced very many disappointments in your
life? If you’re human, you have. Through repeated disappointment,
we can become conditioned to expect more disappointment,
therefore, displaying a lack of faith.

Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith it is impossible to please Him:
for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is
a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” We can see by this
verse that we cannot please God unless we walk by faith.

So, how do you continue to walk by faith if you have been
repeatedly disappointed? After all, why get your hopes up, right?

The dictionary defines faith as trust, belief without proof,
promise, and loyalty.

Ask yourself these questions; Am I really trusting God? Do I know
that He has my best interest in mind? Do I really believe His
promises from His Word are true and they were given for me? Am I
loyal to God and defend Him when the devil tries to tell me that
God doesn’t care about my needs and desires?

These are some serious things to consider. It’s easy to just say
whatever you think God wants to hear, but He is not fooled by
words. He knows the heart.

If you come to God, you must believe that He is God Almighty! And
He rewards those who diligently seek Him. Have faith in Him!
Psalm 62:5 says, “My expectation is in the Lord.”

We must be like the woman who begged Jesus to deliver her
daughter in Matthew 15. She said, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son
of David” (She knew who He was and she was diligently seeking
Him!) Jesus said to her, “Great is your faith! Let it be to you
as you desire” (Matthew 15:28).

The past does not have to equal the future. No matter how many
disappointments you may have faced, He is still God and He loves
you. He wants to perform miracles in your life but you must trust
Him. His hand is moved by faith.

Finding True Happiness: Part One

1 Timothy 6:3
3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmising,
5 Perverse disputing of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

What does it take for man to find true happiness in the world that we live in? How can a person be content in this fast-paced, drive-thru society that we are a part of? For that matter, what does it mean to be content, or be in a state of contentment, and how does an individual arrive at the heels of contentment?

Year after year, the greed level of society is grows to disproportionate levels, especially within the western hemisphere. With the mindset of having bottomless pockets, and the ambition to strive neck and neck with the Jones’, Gonzalez’s and the Rockefellers’, Americans have unfortunately fallen into a pattern of life that has been built up on pedestals of self-pride, arrogance, greed and materialism.

Materialism has become a major headline, along with other sinful acts, such as sexual immorality, murder and violence. Materialism has sent the moral character and credibility of this great nation into a significant tail-spin towards the bottomless pit… hell. It is the spirit of pride, spear-headed by the spirit of Leviathan (Job 41), that has overtly corrupted and soiled this country to the point that secular society’s reprobate mindset cannot possibly understand the fact that this country was once built on biblical, Judeo-Christian principles and commandments of Almighty God.

The fact of the matter is that great gain does not come from the gain of material items. I believe Jesus Christ made it very plain and simple for us to understand when he mentioned the following:

Mark 8
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Men and women are in search for something that truly satisfies their hunger and emptiness. The unfortunate thing is that they are searching in the wrong places and for the wrong things, or people, to satisfy their thirst and hunger. Greed and covetousness is caused by the failure of a substance, person or any object that has been used to satisfy a craving in which the source is unidentifiable. And what do I mean by “unidentifiable source of craving?”

When we are born, we are brought into this world with discontent and hunger for something that will satisfy our cravings in life. What we don’t realize is that the emptiness and discontent that we feel as we stroll through life is a spiritual emptiness and discontent. The discontent is caused by the absence of a critical segment in our life in which will totally satisfy us. This segment is none other than the line of communication, or adapter to the heart of God.

The first thing that we must do is address the fact that there may be discontentment in our lives in which the remedy for it is not a new car, new clothes, a new mate, or a bucket of ice cream! We must realize that the source of discontentment in our lives is caused by the absence of the presence of God within our lives. It is through our relationship with God that true contentment and happiness begins to invade and inhabit our inner man. The only source of happiness and contentment is a direct line of communication with our Daddy God, Abba, Father, through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

God longs for us to see Him for who He really is, Divine treasure! It is the treasure chest of the Father that fulfills all of our needs, aspirations, desires and necessities. He loves us so much and He wants to share His heavenly stuff with us immediately! There’s an entire kingdom that God wants to pour directly into our spiritual bank accounts – a kingdom that will sustain us for eternity. There is literally a hole within our heart in which no other item of any shape will be able to fill, except for the outpouring of love by our Daddy God. He wants to fill our vacancies with His Spirit. He wants to enter into deep dialog with us for eternity. He wants to be the friend like no other – a friend that will never leave us, no matter what the situation may be.

Philippians 4:10-13
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.
11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Hebrews 13:5
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

There is a mandate for us to learn how to be content. Contentment is a plateau of the Christian life that every believer must reach in order to be fulfilled spiritually, mentally and emotionally. The apostle Paul makes reference to the significance of being content in Philippians 4:11:

11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

Even the apostle Paul had to humble himself and learn how to be content, no matter the situation or circumstance, whether rich or poor, in sickness or health, in a state of authority or subjection, power or persecution. When Paul states in verse 13 that “he can do all things through Christ,” he was explaining to the Philippians that he has learned how to be all things to all people and adapt to different environments as necessary. This is the meaning of being content – to be satisfied and at peace no matter the situation or environment.

To be content, we must give God thanks and praise in everything that we do and in every circumstance that we are in. Abba, Father, is the main source for our contentment. No one on this earth is born into contentment. We are actually born into discontent because when we are brought into this world, we are immediately separated from the nurturing presence of God because of sin – not because of any sins that we have committed, of course, only being in the world for a short period of time after our birth! But it is the sin of our forefathers, going all the way back to the garden of Eden, in which we are bound to. Therefore, our connection and line of communication with God is severed at birth – this is a spiritual separation that parallels our physical separation from our mothers when the umbilical cord is cut.

John 14:6-8
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”

To be shown the Father is what we must desire. Just to get a glimpse of His glory and majesty will be enough to make us content. As Philip states in John 14:8, that it would be sufficient for him and the disciples to be shown the Father by Jesus, so shall it be sufficient for believers and non-believers alike to be shown the path to the Father by Jesus Christ. For it is through Christ alone, and no other path, that we will be able to see the Father in all of His splendor and magnificence.

Let us make it a daily priority to be shown the Father. Let us seek Jesus, in order to be led to the Father. This will be sufficient for us. This will bring us contentment , and inevitably this will bring us happiness.

Do People See Visions Anymore?

In the information age with hi-tech devices from computers to GPS tracking is it reasonable to believe that human beings can still experience a vision or an apparition?

Unless God has changed the way he does things it would seem that he has kept the lines open to men and women as usual. Should there be any doubt let me tell you a true story of a sequence of events in my own life. No one had more trouble believing these events than me; in fact I wouldn’t tell even my closest friends for over a year. Now I think so very differently.
Not only do I tell this story but I realize it is part of the reason the events took place, I am supposed to tell of it. Telling it is my very calling in life.

As a young man I spent many years wandering around the country. I can truthfully say there is but one state that I have not been in and that is Alaska. In the early sixties I landed in New Orleans where I went to work and hung out with a crowd of pretty wild young people. In the…City That Care Forgot, it was indeed easy to forget just about anything other than partying and having a good time. I imbibed in alcohol, psychedelic drugs, marijuana and a lot of foolish behavior. As the playing deepened to the stage where it seemed more like work I was growing increasingly more empty and exasperated. At this height of my partying I was experiencing a depth of despair. The best parties have to end.

I met a girl named Fran who lived near me in the wild and famous French Quarter of New Orleans. I only checked in with Fran when I was at my lowest or coming off a major drunk or high. I was drawn to her quiet sense of stability. She was the only moral girl I knew in the quarter and while I would have preferred she wasn’t moral I knew it kept her head clearer than most all the other girls I knew at the time. On one occasion I asked her why she was so different, so calm and so kind to me. Her reply was…I’m a Christian and it is Jesus Christ that makes me different. I scoffed at that. Nothing could have been so meaningless to me at that time, but Fran’s influence continued. One day she said I am going to have my church pray for you Michael because you are so troubled and you need the Lord. I cursed a bit and told her I could care less whether her church prayed or not. I told her I didn’t believe in God, the church or prayer. I kept partying as she and her church began praying. The result of those prayers was to be more than my wildest imagination.

Shortly after Fran and church began praying I found life began getting hard for me. I was still partying, boozing and drugging but it was getting harder. It seemed that now something was pricking my conscience and I started asking myself what the point of all this nonsense was. I felt heavy and dissatisfied with myself. I wouldn’t know for a long time that this is what the Bible calls coming under the conviction of Gods Holy Spirit. I hated the fact that as I partied I couldn’t keep from questioning. I hated it because when I engaged my sense of right and wrong something kept telling me I was living wrong. I thought it would pass but it was relentless. In a fledgling attempt to deal with it all I moved out of the quarter and moved to the uptown section of the city and started to slow down all the going out and fun seeking. One day while alone in my new garden district apartment I began to deeply ponder my life, my direction or more like the lack of it. It was during this deep moment of examination and reflection that I experienced something that was so powerful that I was afraid to share it with anyone for almost one full year. Since that time I have shared it with thousands of people in many places and it is part of a book I wrote many years later.

On that day I wandered from room to room asking myself some very pointed questions. I pondered my path, why was I living the way I was and where would I end up. The more I asked these kinds of questions the more I found myself hungering for some real answers. At some point I sat on the edge of my bed and asked three very serious questions. When I got to the third question I was thrust into an experience that I almost could not believe myself. I don’t argue with anyone about its veracity I just tell it. There is no argument to it and I could no more deny what happened than I could deny that my name is Michael. It wasn’t for years to come that I found a saying that I took to heart although I still do not know where it originated. A man with an experience is never at the mercy of a man with an argument.

The first question I asked was, are we all just the product of our environment and our upbringing. I quickly dismissed this as being any sort of real answer because I knew that I had a free will. I knew people who were raised in ghettos and worse, which went on to live useful and productive lives. This wasn’t the answer.

The second question was, are we only the product of our genes. Must we cow to Mendel’s Law of The Third Generation. If granddad was suicidal I must be too. Must we follow a path designed by a mere combination of biological material? Again I knew this was not the answer because free volition and the ability to choose could overcome even these influences.
Environment and genetics were influences but not answers and I knew some people were using both as mere excuses for every degenerate activity they could conjure. Here then I arrived at a very positive negative.

For my third question I asked, is there really a God, could my brother have been wrong when he told me in no uncertain terms as a boy that parents only tell us of God so we will be good? Could there really be an ultimate being, the very creator of all things? At the very second I asked this question I felt a powerful presence enter the room. Everything stood still but this presence was as real and apparent as it would be if an old friend or my mother had entered. In a moment of time I had a hundred images of my past fly before me. I remembered the times I was cruising down the street trying to tune in some rock and roll on the radio. I remembered coming across Billy Graham speaking of how Christ had died for the sins of the world. I remembered to person who slipped a gospel tract into my hand as I sauntered down the street. I looked at it for a moment crumbled it up and threw it away. I remembered as a boy when the catholic priest would open his bible before he preached and read from the bible. It all stuck me as one single message a message I had chosen to deny thinking it had no meaning. It always seemed far fetched over simplified and pointless to me as I carried on in my real life like everyone else. Religion I was sure was for just a few old ladies and children who couldn’t think for themselves as yet. At that moment I knew I had been wrong.

In what I guess was a prayer I lifted my eyes toward the ceiling and said these words very slowly not just once but three times. God, I’m sorry I have ignored you all of these years and I believe that Jesus Christ is your Son. As I spoke those words two things happened in consecutive order. The first thing that happened was that I felt that presence all around me in the room enter me. It flowed in like a powerful but gentle stream of cool clear water; it literally took my breath away. The second thing that occurred simultaneously was that as I spoke those words ever so slowly peering up at the ceiling the face of Jesus Christ appeared to me. It was not a fading image but a clear brilliant and living face. It glowed with a light I still do not know how to best describe; it was beaming with uncreated light like nothing I have ever seen on this earth. I fell to the floor and wept like a baby. I felt that I had been in the dark all my life and some kind soul just stepped in and said, hey don’t you know there is a light switch here, and turned it on.

Most all of my life, I have believed that visions and apparitions were for ancient saints, liars and religious nuts. That being one of the reasons I chose not to tell anyone of the vision for a very long time. I did not want my friends calling me a nut, mush less a religious nut. But it was far from over.

Shortly after that experience I started to have dreams. I had three in one night at the very beginning. I saw the past in one dream the present in the next and the future in the third. Eight days after the things I saw in the third dream happened to the letter. Since then I have had hundreds of dreams some of the immediate future some more long rang but none that have ever been false. In over thirty years since not one dream or vision has ever been wrong.

Do people see visions anymore? Yes, and they will with increasing frequency. It is promised in the Bible that as we approach the second coming of Christ that men and women alike will begin to see and hear from God in a renewed fashion that will be without precedent in any preceding generation. The Prophet Joel describes this in Joel 2:28. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Deborah: The Judge & Prophetess

God used Deborah to deliver HIS people from Canaanite oppression.

Deborah was a Prophetess who judged Israel. Deborah’s prophecy was fulfilled. (Judges 9:9)

The judges were temporary deliverers, sent by God to deliver the Israelites from their oppressors. Their name in Hebrew is Shophetim and, which is the same as that for ordinary judges. For, though their first work was that of deliverers and leaders in war, they then administered justice to the people and their authority supplied the want of a regular government.

The Book of Judges called in Hebrew ‘Shofetim” (judge), a term identical with the Carthaginian ‘Sufetes,’ althought the two offices were not of the same nature.

The Book may be divided into three parts. Chapters 2:6-16 begins with an introduction explaining the spiritual significance of the events narrated.

Fourth Judge: Deborah and Barak

Let’s look at Judges 4:4-9; 14, 15 and 17a

verse 4…And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.

Deborah was not chosen by the people or appointed by the people. God raised her up to help His people, and thus she judged Israel at that time. The record teaches us that Deborah was a prophetess. Deborah was the judge and one who had the gift of prophecy.

verse 5…And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah, between Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

Mount Ephraim is all the hill country belonging to the tribe of Ephraim. The word “dwelt” could be that Deborah lived there or that was the place at which she gave justice to those who came up to her for judgment.

verse 6…And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying: Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?

Barak lived around 80 miles to the north of where Deborah held court, but it appears he came when Deborah called him. Deborah told Barak that she was giving him the message of the Lord God of Israel, not of her own. God wanted Barak to assemble an army of 10,000 men from the tribe of Naphtali which was Barak’s own tribe and the neighbor tribe of Zebulun. Barak was to lead the army to Mount Tabor.

verse 7…And I will draw unto thee, to the river Kishon, Sisera the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand.

The Lord planned to deliver the men into Barak’s hand: He promised victory to Barak and his army.

verse 8…And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, I will not go.

Barak trusted the Lord and recognized that Deborah was his “link with headquarters.” If God prophetess would not go with him on this mission, then he would not go.

verse 9…And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.

A leadership team is formed. God is the commander, Deborah will convey God’s order to Barak then Barak would command the army. Deborah told Barak that he would not receive the credit for Israel’s victory. The victory would be given to a woman.

verse 14…And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

The prophetess gave the command with the utmost confidence that the Lord Himself was advancing the battle ahead of the ten thousand men. Barak led his troops down the slope of Tabor and across the valley floor to meet the chariots and infantry by the river.

verse 15…And the LORD discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.

The Enemy’s Defeat.

verse 17a…Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite.

Heber is the Kenite, he belonged to the tribe of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses (Judges 4:11). The Kenites had become affiliated with the tribe of Judah to the south (Judges 1:16) but Heber and his wife had chosen a solitary life in the north for they were nomadic shepherds.

Jael’s heart was with Israel. She welcomed him into the tent and agreed to hide him there.

Sisera was a powerful General whose troops outnumbered the army of Israelites and whose weapons was superior to theirs. His first mistake was to place his trust in his military might.

AMERICA NEEDS THE LORD

Lord you spoke into existence the heavens and the earth
Created nations, people and gave America birth
Since 1776 America has been a free land
Our forefathers recognized the creation of Your hand
Many prayers for America have reached your ears
You have kept her safe throughout the years
You have raised up leaders for our nation
For a season and a time them You did station
Now it is the year two thousand and four
America needs your presence even more

America needs the Lord to heal our land
Please, O Lord, stretch out Your healing hand
Without Your presence America would fall
Because of this unto You we do call

Since America’s beginning, we have had many wars
We have lost many Americans, boys and girls
O Lord, don’t let those deaths be in vain
Comfort their loved ones and heal their pain
From Massachusetts to Oregon state
Upon the prayers of Your people You do wait
Your eyes roam to and fro throughout the country
To show Yourself strong to those who pray to thee

You said if you shall ask you shall receive
Deliver America, O Lord, from those who do deceive
In the troublesome days that lie ahead
Give us day by day our daily bread
America is still under Your amazing grace
Let us not forsake to seek Your face
A great awakening is what we need
To Your Word, O Lord, America must heed
Greed and strife has a strong hold
In the land of the free and the home of the bold

How To Secure Your Laptop

Laptops are quite expensive, hence the risk of being stolen. Laptops are smaller, easy to travel with, because of these, its patronage is on the increase. Laptops because of their new processing power is a delight of most companies today.

How Do I Secure My Laptop

Laptops these days contain vital data and are greatly used for remote data access. Its security should be top priority to all users. There are three aspects to consider in securing your laptop.

  • Physical Security.
  • Security Software.
  • Security Consciousness.

Physical Security

Physical security involves physical barriers put in place to inhibit access to where your laptop is kept.

Such barriers, hinder the following circumstances;

The physical barriers should have the following features;

  • The ability to properly lock the entrance to where your laptop is kept.
  • An alarm system should be in place to notify you in case of a break in.
  • An inbuilt security camera (cctv) should be placed where your laptop is kept. This is to monitor your laptop.
  • All windows or doors must be screened to prevent prying eyes from seeing expensive information assets such as your laptop.
  • The ability to fasten the laptop to a non-moveable object. This is stopping a thief from carrying the laptop away.
  • The ability to trigger snap shots in case of a break in. These snap shots are directly targeted at the laptop.

Security Software

Access to your laptop can also be prevented using security software.

This security software prevents access to your desktop. It ensures that only the owner of the laptop has access to using the applications on the laptop.

Features of a Security Software

  • It must prompt the user, to enter a user name and a password.
  • The ability to generate audit report such as successful logins, failed logins should be an essential feature.
  • The user should be able to lock the screen when not in use.
  • Optional but also essential, the software should have the ability to beep when the screen is tampered with.

Security Consciousness

After all said and done, without security consciousness on the part of the user or laptop owner, every control put in place to deter access to the laptop would be futile.

Security Consciousness Tips

  • Always lock the door to your office.
  • Always carry your laptop with you.
  • If not in use put it in a safe and lock it.
  • Make sure when nature calls you activate the screen lock and all access doors to your office are locked.
  • Always keep your laptop locked in a box and in the boot of your car when driving.
  • Do not use your laptop in overcrowded places.
  • All the necessary details about your laptop must be written and stored in a safe place i.e. serial number, brand name, model e.t.c.
  • Insure your laptop against loss, such as damage, fire e.t.c.

Advice

Email Scams – Ten Simple Steps To Avoiding Them

According to the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) email scams also known as phishing attacks claim more than 2,000 victims each day from more than 75 million phishing emails that are sent each day. The APWG also claims that these email scams steal close to $1 billion a year from its victims.

Phishing (pronounced fishing), is online identity theft that uses spoof emails, fraudulent websites and crimeware to trick unsuspecting internet users into providing financial data, credit card numbers, social security numbers, account logins and passwords, etc.

These email scams (spoof email) mimic legitimate companies such as banks, credit card companies, investing companies, paypal, ebay, etc. These fraudulent emails look like they are from the “real” company; many even include the real company’s logo. Generally these emails try to convey a sense of urgency; if you don’t correct this problem your account will be suspended.

The spoof email may state that there is a problem with your account and if you do not log in and update your information your account may be suspended, restricted, terminated, or something similar. They may also request user name, passwords, credit card numbers, social security numbers, etc.

Protecting yourself against phishing and email scams.

    1. Do not give out personal or financial information through an email request.
    2. Always log on to your sensitive accounts by opening a new browser and typing the actual URL directly into the address bar. For example, if you receive a suspected phishing email from ebay, open a new browser and type “www.ebay.com” in the browser bar.
    3. Do not click on any link in a suspected phishing email.
    4. Do not open any attachments in a suspected email scam.
    5. Only use a secure website to submit sensitive data. A secure sites’ address will begin with https:// instead of http://
    6. Check the activity of your online accounts regularly and check for fraudulent activity.
    7. Make sure your browser is up to date and all security patches are installed.
    8. Report phishing and spoof email to: reportphishing@antiphishing.com , spam@uce.gov, and forward the email to the company that is being spoofed.
    9. Keep your PC protected with updated anti-virus software, anti-spyware software, and a firewall.
    10. You may want to install an anti-phishing toolbar such as Earthlink ScamBlocker which alerts you before you visit a known fraudulent website. It’s free and can be downloaded at http://www.earthlink.net/earthlinktoolbar

As email scams are on the rise and with the consequences being identity theft, it is important that you increase your awareness and learn to protect yourself from these fraudulent attacks. With more than 75 million phishing emails being sent every day it’s only a matter of time before you receive one. By following the above tips you will protect yourself from many email scams and the possible financial consequences.

Top 10 tips for Safe Internet Shopping

Over £5 billion pounds was spent on online shopping in 2004. The Internet was the fastest growing retail sector last year, attracting one in four shoppers. The growth rate for the online market was 27.4 per cent, six times better than for the traditional retail market. This looks set to rise as more and more people look for more convenient ways of shopping. It’s easy to search for a product and then purchase it – all at the click of a button and from the comfort of your home. You have a fun time shopping, browsing, reading and gathering information about products, and you don’t have to take time out from your busy schedule to fight traffic, crowds and queues to buy the perfect gift for your recipient.

But how can you ensure you are shopping safely? Brad Bagherian, Managing Director, at Elaborations Ltd, a web design company in Amersham, has put together the following tips for safe surfing:

1. Take your time

Take your time when purchasing online since high pressure sales tactics, just like in the real world, often indicate possible frauds. Ensure the site is easy to use, designed well and looks professional. An amateur’s site will often look cluttered.

If you are in doubt, stop the transaction. You can stop the transaction anytime before pressing the Pay and / or Confirm button that sends your order off to the business.

2. Look for Contact Details

You may think all online shops will have their contact details on their website. You might be surprised to find that some do not provide their details, no email address and no phone number. This is a sure red flag. Reputable online shops will always provide concise contact information, this includes a physical address and a phone number. If you are suspicious trust your gut feelings. Do not buy online if you are unsure that the shop is real.

3. Consider all costs before purchasing

Shop around and compare prices before buying. When you calculate the cost of a product make sure that you take into account of the delivery charge and the VAT – these are often not included in the overall price. Also make sure what you’re buying is not subject to any import restrictions.

4. Check the Returns Policy

Most reputable online shops offer strong guarantees and stand behind their products. Check the Returns Policy before you proceed to the checkout. Things you should take particular note of are; what happens if the goods are damaged or faulty, who should pay the postage costs for the return of an unwanted item and how many days you have to return an unwanted item. Online shopping surpasses the physical shops in convenience, but there is a disadvantage of being unable to physically touch the products, so the greater the refund policy period the better. If there is no refund policy, the best advice is to stay away.

Plus don’t forget that under the Distance Selling Regulations, you do have a seven-day-cooling-off period in case you change your mind. For further information on Distance Selling Regulations see http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/ecomm.htm

5. Check Delivery Options

Find out when they will be delivering and whether you can choose the delivery date and time. Make sure the address you provide for delivery will have someone available who can sign for the package when it arrives.

Various delivery options may incur extra costs. For example, faster delivery, registered post and weekend delivery may cost extra. So if you don’t want to be surprised when checking out, make sure you find out what their delivery terms are like.

6. Protect your Personal Information

Avoid giving out personal information that is not strictly necessary for a successful purchase.

Check the companies Privacy Policy (which is usually located at the bottom of the website) which tells you what they intend to do with your information. They should maintain your personal details in the strictest privacy and confidentiality according to the 1998 Data Protection Act.

7. Ensure the Transaction is Secure

Check whether the website complies with the industry’s security standards (SSL) which help prevent fraud and protect you by encrypting the personal information you send over the Internet during the transaction. This encryption means that a hacker will not be able to steal your credit card and personal information. You must ensure the following two measures are in place before you complete any transaction on the Internet
 Ensure a padlock image is present on the bottom right hand side of your browser
 Ensure the web address begins with “https”

8. Pay by Credit Card

This will give you added protection because your credit card issuer becomes jointly responsible for the goods that you buy. So if there is a problem that the company won’t resolve, the credit card company will assist you. While the problem is being investigated, you would not need to pay the credit card charge and if the company still doesn’t deliver or they are a scam, you’re in a much better position to claim your money back.

9. Keep a record of everything

Once you have made an online purchase, you will receive an email confirmation and an order reference number. Print these out and keep a note of any reference numbers provided during the transaction. It would also be useful to print out the details of the product or service you ordered. If there was a special offer on at the time, print out the web page with the offer on it. This will include vital information such as the web address, date and time it was printed. If you can not print out the information, then save the page in a folder on your PC for reference. These may be relevant if a dispute arises.

10. Know Your Rights

Online consumers have exactly the same rights as offline consumers. The goods should fit the product description and be as satisfactory as described online. If something goes wrong with your purchase, there are actions you can take with the shop, and your bank to fix the problem. For further information take a look at the Office of Fair Trading website.

Brad Bagherian, Managing Director, at Elaborations Ltd comments: “As long as you have these tips in mind, you can shop on the Internet with your mind at ease. Most online shops and companies provide excellent value and discount prices because they do not have to cover the overheads of a physical business that will cost them insurance, employee pay, taxes and more. It’s no surprise then that we are finding more and more businesses are taking their products and services to the web by setting up ecommerce sites.”
